PRESIDENT - Steve Crowell Steve is a Vice President at VIKA Virginia - a site development design firm whose office is located mere minutes away from the BIM campus. He was already active in the Tysons community having been the lead designer and project manager for many of the recent developments that have occurred in the Tysons area - so integrating into the BIM community was a logical next step. Steve holds a Civil Engineering degree and an Economics degree from the University of Virginia. Currently he has three daughters enrolled at BIM - twin 8th graders and a 6th grader. You have likely seen him around campus volunteering to assist in coaching the Cross County and Middle School Girls Basketball teams. Steve loves the BIM community and the degree to which parents, educators, administration, and students come together and support each other in fostering such a supportive and enjoyable environment - against the backdrop of a rigorous and fulfilling educational curriculum. He often describes his sense of humor as being similar to a fungus. You may not get it at first but over time it is bound to grow on you - so if you haven't chuckled at any of his PCA Posts yet this year...wait for it, it's coming.
VICE PRESIDENT - Jennifer Poole An economist by training, Jennifer works as the Director of Graduate Studies at American University's School of International Service. Beyond academics and teaching, she often collaborates with the DC policy community, most notably as the Senior International Economist in President Obama's Council of Economic Advisers, as well as with the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. She has two sons at BASIS: Victor (Rodriguez) is currently in Grade 4 and Nico is in Kindergarten. She considers herself to be BIM's biggest cheerleader, and loves how the school facilitates interactions across grades--Grade 4 learning from high-schoolers and reading to the pre-schoolers. She is also a serious swim mom, and you can almost always find her on a local pool deck.
TREASURER - Bas Bakker Bas returns for his second year as Treasurer. He and his wife Christine have had three kids in BASIS: Susanna in 8th grade, Thijs in 12th, and Sonja who graduated from BASIS in 2022 and is now in college. Bas is a division chief in the IMF’s Western Hemisphere Department.
SECRETARY - Laura Gwyn Laura serves as Secretary on the PCA Board. She and her husband, David, have four kids, but Payton (4th grade) is their only child at Basis. This is Laura’s fifth year as a Basis parent. Payton’s older siblings are all in college or beyond, having done K-12 in Montgomery County, Maryland. Laura has served on her other kids’ school PTA boards (treasurer) and committees (book fair) as well as her current neighborhood community board (secretary). Laura loves the BIM community and is always trying to convince others from her side of the river that the commute really isn’t that bad (it really isn’t).
